Valor & Scribe announces Pines, Rivers & Mercy — a roots-folk album of faith, kinship and returning home

Australian Christian music community Valor & Scribe will release Pines, Rivers & Mercy on 13 August 2026, a deeply personal collection drawing together Appalachian-inspired folk, country-gospel storytelling and musical influences gathered across decades of listening, learning and life.

Built around acoustic guitar, fiddle, dobro, hand-drum textures, close harmonies and spacious, weathered vocals, the album travels through rivers, pine forests, mountains, firelight and winter ground. Its songs explore grief, identity, family, endurance, resurrection and the quiet presence of God.

Although firmly rooted in Christian faith, Pines, Rivers & Mercy was written to welcome listeners who may not ordinarily reach for Christian music. Rather than preaching from a distance, the album meets people in familiar human places: beside graves, around family tables, beneath burdens, in seasons of silence and along the difficult road home.

For Valor & Scribe founder Caroline Vaigafa Gallulo, the sound of the album reaches far back into her own story. Caroline grew up with strong country roots and has always felt at home within folk music and its tradition of carrying history through melody, memory and story.

That sense of story also carries through Caroline's own Central and South American heritage, with its deep connections to family, land, rhythm, spirituality and the preservation of memory through story and song.

Across songs including "Red River Prayer," "The River Knows My Name," "Smoke Signals," "My Grandmother's Hands" and "Nothing Buried Stays Lost," landscapes become witnesses to the human story. Rivers remember names, mountains carry love, smoke lifts prayers, and the frozen earth becomes a promise that resurrection can still follow winter.

Other moments are quieter and more intimate. "Call My Name Again" explores the way Christ restores identity when a person has forgotten who they are, while "A Table in the Wilderness" draws upon the imagery of Psalm 23 to find provision and belonging in seemingly barren places. "Interlude: The Names We Carry" brings spoken word and layered harmonies into a reflection on inherited names, spiritual identity and the Name that ultimately holds us.

At its heart, Pines, Rivers & Mercy is an album about what remains: faith after disappointment, love after loss, memory after separation and life beneath ground that appears empty.

"I never put too much emphasis on the type or style of an album," Caroline says. "But I love this one — it resonates with me, and I just pray it can resonate with others and help them walk the path back home to God."
